Points related to the use of a cane
- Client should keep eyes forward while walking
- The cane's height should reach the client's wrist
when the arms are relaxed at their side.
- The cane should have a rubber tip on the bottom.
- The cane should be held in the hand on the unaffected side.
- The cane should move with the weak or affected side.
- Up the stairs (up with the good foot--- then move the cane and the affected
foot up to the step at the same time)
- Down the stairs (put cane and affected leg down on the step---then bring
the good foot down to that same step
